The Brief
Al Turki Enterprise LLC engaged POINT B to prepare an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for a proposed limestone crusher facility in AlKhaboura, North Al Batinah Governorate. The crusher was planned to serve the client’s existing quarry concession, processing extracted limestone into graded construction aggregates for the regional market.
The ESIA was required to demonstrate compliance with Omani Environmental Authority regulations, evaluate the suitability of the proposed location, and provide the client with a clear framework for managing environmental responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle. A previous crusher location had already been rejected by the authorities, making a robust and credible assessment essential to securing approval for the revised site.
Our Role
POINT B conducted a site reconnaissance survey alongside a review of secondary data provided by the client, establishing a comprehensive environmental baseline across five key themes: the physical environment and topography, soil quality, groundwater, ecology, and social settings. This baseline characterised the existing conditions against which all potential project impacts were assessed.
The impact assessment considered the full range of receptors likely to be affected by crusher operations — from ambient air quality and noise levels to worker health, water resources, local ecology, and the socio-economic context of nearby communities and infrastructure. For each receptor, we identified the specific project activities driving potential change: crushing and screening processes, vehicle movements, fuel combustion, dust generation, and material transportation.
Alongside the impact evaluation, POINT B developed a targeted Environmental Management Plan setting out practical mitigation measures for the client’s operational teams, and a structured monitoring programme to demonstrate ongoing compliance with Omani standards. The completed ESIA gave Al Turki Enterprise the documentation needed to support their Environmental Authority licence application and move the project forward with confidence.
